Morocco: SIP providers and connecting a number to your PBX

We do not issue phone numbers: the venue buys a Moroccan number from a carrier or its partner and connects it to its own PBX as a trunk. Everything that is the same in every country — trunk modes, form fields, network requirements and connectivity checks — is covered in the overview “Connecting a provider's number to your PBX”. This page covers only the Moroccan part: where to get a number, what to enter in the admin panel and what people trip over in this country.

The data was collected on 9 September 2026 from the websites of carriers and resellers, materials of the regulator ANRT and the numbering plan published in the ITU bulletin; links are in the “Sources” section.

In brief#

• You can buy a trunk for your own PBX in Morocco, but the licence is required from the seller, not from the venue. Under ANRT decision ANRT/DG/N°04-04 of 06/04/2004, the commercial provision of IP telephony to the public and the carriage of third-party traffic are reserved for licensed operators, while the use of IP telephony in private, shared and internal corporate networks is expressly allowed. A venue that buys a number from a licensed operator and terminates it on its own PBX fits inside that framework.
• None of the three national carriers publishes SIP trunk parameters. The host, port, transport, authorisation mode and codecs arrive in the provisioning sheet. Of the big three, a trunk is described as a product only by Orange Maroc (“Business Talk” — moving the customer's existing telephony to IP); Maroc Telecom sells Marnis lines and Centrex, inwi sells a line and cloud packs.
• The only parameters published in the country do not suit us. SIPTRUNK.MA shows a delivery of “Transport TLS 5061 · SRTP · Codecs OPUS · G.711a”, Voipsense shows “Ports UDP 5060 / 5061 (TLS)”. Our PBX supports neither TLS nor SRTP on trunks and does not speak Opus. So the first question to any seller is “do you deliver the trunk over UDP/TCP 5060 with G.711 a-law/u-law?”, not “how many channels”.
• The number has nine digits, while a line matches seven. A Moroccan number carries nine digits after the leading zero, and only the last seven are matched — the first two are dropped. The landline 05 22 12 34 56 and the mobile 06 12 12 34 56 produce the same tail 2123456 and collapse into one line.
• A +212 number is hard to buy from abroad. DIDWW marks local SIP trunking for Morocco as “Not available” and Twilio has no Moroccan numbers. Local +212 numbers are offered by AstraQom and a few virtual-number resellers — with KYC and a lead time of days.
• A GSM gateway with your own SIM cards is not a shortcut but a risk. In Morocco, mobile and digital gateways may be used for national traffic only and require prior clearance from ANRT.

Numbers in Morocco#

The country code is +212, the plan is closed and 10 digits long: a leading 0 plus nine digits of the national number. The leading 0 is mandatory for every number except short codes; the international prefix is 00. From abroad the number is dialled without the leading zero: +212 522 XX XX XX.

• Cities are recognised by the digits after 05: Casablanca — 05 22, Rabat — 05 37, Marrakesh — 05 24, Tangier — 05 39, Fez — 05 35.
• The 0 808X range is a sign of legal IP telephony. In the numbering plan it is a separate line, “Téléphonie IP”, and for Maroc Telecom it is annotated “(Centrex IP)”. A number of that shape means the service is sold by the holder of the range.
• No Moroccan seller has published what an inbound call carries as the number. Be ready for three variants: E.164 without the plus (212522XXXXXX), national with the leading zero (0522XXXXXX) or the bare nine digits (522XXXXXX). On the first connection look at the SIP trace to see what the provider actually sends, and only then create lines.
• Only resellers name their codecs: CLICSIPx — “G.722 and G.711”, Voip Dyali — “G711, G729, GSM, ILBC, G723”, SIPTRUNK.MA — “OPUS · G.711a”. The carriers publish nothing — ask during provisioning; G.711 a-law/u-law and G.722 work for us.
• Emergency numbers (from open sources as of 09/09/2026): 19 — police in cities, 177 — Royal Gendarmerie on highways and in rural areas, 15 — fire and civil defence, 150 — ambulance, 112 — from a mobile phone. Our PBX does not carry emergency calls — an ordinary phone or a mobile must stay on the premises during a shift.

Who sells a number with a SIP trunk#

Below are cards for the four sellers whose trunk to a third-party PBX is a product of its own, plus a review of the rest. Every one of them issues parameters under contract; the full list of questions for the sales manager is in “What to ask your provider”.

Orange Maroc — Business Talk#

The country's second carrier (formerly Médi Telecom, part of the Orange group) with a full ERPT licence. Its corporate catalogue at entreprise.orange.ma has two voice products, and telling them apart matters. Business Talk is described as a “solution innovante pour transformer vos systèmes téléphoniques traditionnels en une infrastructure IP moderne”: integration with the customer's existing systems, adding and changing lines without a reinstall, an SLA and “chiffrement avancé”. Office Pack is the same telephony but with an IPBX and handsets supplied by Orange (packages for 4–20 and 21–100 users, four-hour restoration guarantee): that is the operator's own PBX, so it does not fit our setup.

Orange Maroc publishes no technical parameters, neither on the product page nor in its B2B tariff catalogue.

What to enter in the admin panel (Telephony → “Trunks and connections” → “Add provider”):

What to arrange with the provider: order Business Talk specifically, without Office Pack → ask for the trunk to be delivered over the public internet, not only over the Orange access circuit → give the engineer the static IP of your PBX from the “Server” tab → confirm the codecs and the number format on inbound calls → have the numbers routed to the trunk.

Pitfalls ⚠️

• “Advanced encryption” is a reason to ask about TLS. If it turns out the trunk is delivered over TLS with SRTP only, there will be no connection: our trunks run over UDP or TCP.
• The Moroccan arm publishes no guides of its own. “Business Talk” is a global Orange Business brand, and in France it comes with detailed documentation — but French parameters cannot be carried over to Morocco.
• The product page lives at /Fixe-et-Internet/Telephonie-fixe/Business-Talk, not where the neighbouring sections sit, so older links return 404.

SIPTRUNK.MA — a DID and a SIP address#

A Moroccan reseller and integrator from Casablanca (the legal entity is WeConnect): trunks, DIDs, CloudUCM, CRM, serving Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, Tangier, Agadir, Fez, Meknes and Oujda. This is the fastest route to a Moroccan number: “a DID plus a SIP address” is sold as a separate product, the number goes live within 48 hours and the SIP address is issued the same day. Bundles: WAVE — 1 channel, 3,000 DH excl. tax per year; IP PHONE — 2 channels with a Grandstream handset, 4,500 DH excl. tax per year; CLOUD UCM — a dedicated CloudUCM with a DID and 2 channels, 7,500 DH excl. tax per year; TEAM — on request.

⚠️ The published delivery does not suit our PBX exactly as it is advertised: “URI sip:agent-01@notreserveur.ma · Transport TLS 5061 · SRTP · Codecs OPUS · G.711a”. We have no TLS trunks at all and do not support Opus. G.711 a-law, however, they do have — so the whole question comes down to transport, and it has to be asked before you pay.

What to enter in the admin panel:

What to arrange with the provider: insist on a trunk over UDP or TCP 5060 with G.711 a-law instead of TLS/SRTP/Opus → order a bundle with the number of channels you need → have the DID routed to your account → clarify what arrives in the number part of an inbound call.

Pitfalls ⚠️

• The product is designed around their own platform — CloudUCM and the Wave app. “Just a trunk to someone else's PBX” is sold, but it is negotiated individually rather than picked with a button on the site.
• Check who carries the traffic under the contract. The seller is WeConnect; the licensed operator that actually carries the traffic must be named in the contract.

Voipsense Maroc — Trunk SIP#

A VoIP integrator from Casablanca, in business since 2016: trunks, a cloud SBC, IPBXs (Grandstream, Yeastar, Asterisk and FreePBX), call centres and hardware. The service is described as “Trunk SIP … Connectez votre IPBX au réseau téléphonique mondial”: a 99.9 % SLA, one channel per concurrent call, channels added on the fly, local numbers in “50+ countries”, plus a separate offer to “digitise” existing fixed, GSM and ISDN S0/T0 lines.

Of the technical parameters only protocols and ports are published: “Ports UDP 5060 / 5061 (TLS sécurisé)” and an alternative protocol, “IAX2 … Port unique UDP 4569”. Our PBX does not speak IAX2 — only SIP.

What to enter in the admin panel:

What to arrange with the provider: say up front that the PBX is Asterisk in the cloud with a static IP, not a box on the premises (their default scenario is to come over and install an IPBX) → confirm that Moroccan DIDs are actually available → lock in G.711 a-law/u-law → decline IAX2 → hand over the static IP for the allowlist.

Pitfalls ⚠️

• Their business model is “sell hardware and configure it on site”. A trunk without equipment is less interesting to them, so agree the “hand over the trunk and leave” role in advance.
• Moroccan inbound numbers are not listed explicitly on the service page — “50+ countries” is said in general terms. Ask them to confirm the specific area code in writing before you pay.

CLICSIPx — a trunk carried by local operators#

A French-Moroccan company: a call-centre CRM plus telephony, IP handset fleet installation and support for offshore call centres in Morocco. The trunk is declared compatible with “Asterisk, FreePBX, 3CX, Cisco, Avaya and every IPBX on the market”, and national traffic is carried by certified local operators — IAM, inwi and Orange; Moroccan rates are quoted per volume, with separate unlimited plans for France and Europe.

This is the only seller in the country that names a codec set that suits us outright: “qualité audio haute définition avec codec G.722 et G.711”. The host, port and authorisation mode are not published.

What to enter in the admin panel:

What to arrange with the provider: ask for a trunk to an external PBX rather than a connection to their CRM platform → clarify whose number is issued (theirs or the carrier's) and in what format the DID arrives → confirm G.711 and G.722 → hand over the static IP of your PBX.

Pitfalls ⚠️

• The same service page carries the country's regulatory caveat: “L'utilisation des Gateway mobiles ou numériques est strictement réservée à un usage national avec validation préalable de l'ANRT”. If you are offered “traffic through a GSM gateway with your own SIM cards”, remember: that is lawful only inside Morocco and only with prior clearance from the regulator.

Maroc Telecom and inwi — no trunk on the shelf#

Maroc Telecom (Itissalat Al-Maghrib) is the incumbent and the largest holder of numbering: almost every landline range and four of the six “IP telephony” ranges in the ANRT plan. Yet there is no separate “SIP trunk” product in its corporate catalogue: the “Téléphonie → FIXE” section lists ForfaiFix, InfiniFix, Marnis, options, audio conferencing and special numbers. Marnis is a set of classic digital lines to a company's own switch, while IP telephony is sold as Centrex, that is, the operator's own cloud PBX; going by the descriptions, neither fits our PBX.

Special numbers in the same catalogue: “Numéro vert” — 80 DH excl. tax/month, a shared-cost number — 150 DH excl. tax/month, a third charging option — 320 DH excl. tax/month.

What to ask the corporate desk (3030, 0800 00 3030, the espacebusiness.iam.ma portal): will they deliver Marnis or Centrex as a SIP trunk to our public static IP over the internet, rather than only to their own equipment on the premises; and if so, over which transport, in which authorisation mode and with which codecs. The full list is in “What to ask your provider”. ⚠️ Marnis is sold as lines, so by default an engineer will come to install equipment at the venue: the “PBX in the cloud” model is not part of the sales script, so raise it from the very first conversation.

inwi (Wana Corporate) offers no trunk for a third-party PBX at all. Its corporate fixed offer is “Business Connect Fixe” (from 249 DH incl. tax/month: one line with number portability, unlimited national landline calls, 2 h 30 min to mobiles, 249 DH connection fee, a fixed-IP option for another 20 DH incl. tax/month, commitments of 0/12/24 months), while IP telephony comes as the cloud packs “Solution de communications unifiées”, where connecting an external switch is not described. If you want to check for yourself, ask inwi Business in their own words: “SIP trunk vers notre IPBX hébergé”, and whether it is sold outside the UC pack.

Voip Dyali and integrators#

International providers with Moroccan numbers#

Morocco is not a country where a number is bought online within the hour. What is confirmed by provider documents as of 09/09/2026:

• DIDWW — on its “SIP Trunk in Morocco” page the local tier is marked “Not available”; only international A-Z termination is offered. It has no Moroccan numbers.
• Twilio — does not sell Moroccan numbers: it has no country requirements page for Morocco at all.
• Telnyx — Morocco appears in the general coverage list, but the list does not show what exactly is covered: inbound numbers or outbound termination only. Ask them to confirm number availability in writing before paying.
• AstraQom — the only one to claim the full set for Morocco: local +212 numbers in Casablanca (5 22), Rabat (5 37), Marrakesh (5 24), Tangier (5 39) and Fez (5 35), toll-free numbers, SIP trunks from $9 per channel per month, number porting in 2–4 weeks, number activation in 1–3 business days, billing in USD and EUR. No technical parameters are published — request them at activation.
• United World Telecom (from $98.95/month), TollFreeForwarding, PBX.IM and MyCountryMobile sell Moroccan virtual numbers with forwarding, including forwarding to SIP. KYC for Morocco requires proof of identity and address, and activation takes up to 5 business days.
• Zadarma has no Morocco number page — it does not sell +212.

Trunk parameters at international providers are standard and described in the admin panel catalogue cards: most use REGISTER with a username and password from the portal, some use IP authorisation.

Number porting#

• Porting works in Morocco. According to ANRT, mobile 06xx numbers (both post-paid and pre-paid), geographic fixed 05xx numbers and non-geographic 08xx / 09xx numbers can all be ported.
• A landline number can be ported only inside its own geographic area — that is, within the same code. If the venue moves to another city, the number cannot be kept.
• Deadlines and fees. The base framework is decision ANRT/DG/N°04/15 with later revisions; according to press reports the donor operator reviews the request in 2 business days, the recipient operator completes the port in 1 business day, and requests to port, cancel or return are free for the customer. An RIO identifier and an electronic mandate have been introduced.
• A number bought from a reseller is harder to port. Before connecting, ask whose name the number is registered in: if it belongs to the intermediary rather than to your venue, porting will have to go through them.
• Register the number to the company from the start. A number bought in the owner's personal name is lost when the venue changes hands.
• ⚠️ Changing the public address of the PBX breaks a trunk that uses IP authorisation. If the dedicated machine is rebuilt, tell the operator the new address in advance.

Rules and paperwork#

If it does not work#

1. The provider only delivers the trunk over TLS 5061 with SRTP. This is the most common local cause, and no setting fixes it: our trunks have UDP and TCP only. Demand the ordinary port 5060 with G.711 a-law before you pay, exactly as worded in the cards above.
2. You were offered IAX2. Voipsense describes it as an alternative to SIP (UDP 4569), but our PBX speaks SIP only. IAX2 must be declined at the ordering stage.
3. You were sold Centrex or a UC pack instead of a trunk. Marnis lines, Orange Office Pack and inwi's “Solution de communications unifiées” are the operator's switch, not a trunk out. The tell-tale sign in conversation: they offer you their handsets and their 08 08X number.
4. The trunk is delivered only to equipment on the premises. Moroccan engineers install an IPBX or a gateway at the venue by default. Spell it out: “the PBX is in the cloud, it has a static IP, deliver the trunk over the public internet”, and hand over the address from the “Server” tab.
5. Two numbers have collapsed into one line. A line is matched on the last seven digits while the national number has nine, so the first two never take part. Choose numbers with different tails or separate them with routing.
6. Registration is green but no calls arrive. Check that the DID is routed to your account at the provider and that the “Accepts calls” checkbox on the line is still ticked, then look at the SIP trace to see the format the number arrives in.

Frequently asked questions#

Can a Moroccan number be connected to your own PBX at all?#

Yes. The ANRT licence is required from whoever sells the service, not from the venue that uses it: decision 04-04 expressly allows companies to use IP telephony in their internal and private networks. The venue buys the number and the trunk from a licensed operator or its partner and terminates them on its own PBX.

Why can't I just take the cheapest SIPTRUNK.MA bundle?#

Because the published delivery is TLS 5061, SRTP and Opus, while our trunks run over UDP or TCP and speak G.711 and G.722. This seller does have G.711 a-law, so it comes down to a single email: “will you provide UDP or TCP 5060 with G.711 a-law?”. If the answer is no, choose another seller.

Can I buy a +212 number online from abroad?#

Almost never. DIDWW provides no local trunking for Morocco, Twilio has no Moroccan numbers, and Telnyx's coverage list does not say what is actually covered. In practice, local +212 numbers are claimed only by AstraQom and a handful of virtual-number resellers — with identity and address checks and a lead time of several business days.

Can I install a GSM gateway with my own SIM cards?#

Technically yes, legally with a caveat: mobile and digital gateways may be used for national traffic only and require prior clearance from ANRT. International calls must not be routed through such a gateway.

Do I have to warn the guest that the call is recorded?#

Yes. Law 09-08 on personal data protection applies under CNDP supervision: consent to processing must be informed, so a voice notice at the start of the call is mandatory. The PBX picks the language of that notice from the country of the location — for Morocco that means Arabic or French.

How long does connection take?#

With a reseller — days (SIPTRUNK.MA promises a number within 48 hours). With one of the big three — weeks: a contract with a legal entity, agreement on the technical design, installation. With an international aggregator — 1 to 5 business days plus KYC paperwork.
